GEAPS takes pride in its members’ commitment to safety in the grain and grain processing industries. The Safety Star initiative recognizes those who go above and beyond to promote safety and prevent workplace hazards.

This program serves as a platform to honor exceptional safety leadership and share innovative practices that inspire the entire industry. The individuals nominated set the standard for workplace safety by implementing effective measures, advocating for safety education, and ensuring compliance with safety regulations.

Amanda Sledge received nominations from not one, but two, individuals. Her colleague Sarah Cardell at American Services as well as customer April Trusty of F&F Construction both praised Sledge’s proactive commitment to safety, going beyond basic job responsibilities to actively protect people, equipment, and operations.

Cardell highlighted Sledge’s impact, stating, “[She] will bend over backwards and even give you her own hard hat if you had a meeting and didn’t have yours.” Sledge’s integrity, dedicated work ethic, and strong belief in the company and this industry all contribute to her success in helping everyone remain safe. She can be best described as a team player who works extremely hard in everything she does.

Trusty seconds recognition of Sledge’s efforts, noting that “instead of reacting to an incident after it occurrs, [she] identifies a risk early and takes decisive action to eliminate or reduce it, preventing potential injury, downtime, or even catastrophic loss.” This demonstration of leadership and accountability reflects a strong understanding of safety protocols and a willingness to do the right thing—even when it may have slowed production or required extra effort.

Sledge prioritizes safety and takes initiative to communicates with others to help implement a long-term solution. These contribute to a positive safety culture, setting a standard for all.

Some of the ways Sledge influences team culture includes training new employees on hazard awareness and safe practices, consistently reinforcing PPE use and safe behavior, and setting the example every day.

Congrats, Amanda!
